Vendors Selected for the “Cool Vendor Report” Are Innovative, Impactful and Intriguing

Colombo, Sri Lanka and Mountain View, CA – May 13, 2008 – WSO2, the open source SOA company, announced today that it has been included in the list of “Cool Vendors” in the “Cool Vendors in Web Technologies, 2008” report by Gartner, Inc., which was published April 18, 2008. The Gartner report was authored by David Mitchell Smith, Gene Phifer, Ray Valdes, Nicholas Gall, and Daniel Sholler.

According to the Gartner report, “Web communities can provide rich, new interactions among employees, business partners and customers. Web platforms and their architecture provide an adaptable technology model and potentially require significantly less-expensive infrastructure to support.”

"We founded WSO2 to eliminate the barriers to implementing service-oriented architectures that exist with legacy middleware,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder and CEO of WSO2. “We are very honored to have our company and WSO2 Mashup Server included in the ‘Cool Vendors in Web Technologies, 2008’ report from Gartner, one of the world’s premier IT research firms. We believe it is strong validation of the lightweight, heterogeneous approach of our SOA middleware, as well as our commitment to open source to foster adoption and innovation.”

The WSO2 Mashup Server combines the simplicity and richness of mashups with the reusability, security, reliability and governance required for a service-oriented architecture (SOA). In doing so, it allows enterprises to empower their Web developers, business analysts, and other power users to develop valuable situational applications. These mashups can be published, shared, rated, tagged, commented upon, and searched to maximize their value to the enterprise. Mooshup.com, a hosted online version of the Mashup Server, provides an open community site for developing, running, and sharing mashups, which can be easily downloaded to or uploaded from any WSO2 Mashup Server.

The Mashup Server is part of WSO2’s comprehensive, open source SOA platform, which enables companies to easily create and manage enterprise-class Web services in today’s heterogeneous service-oriented architectures. Other key products include the WSO2 Web Services Application Server and WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus, both based on Apache Axis2; WSO2 Web 2.0-enabled Registry: WSO2 Identity Solution utilizing Microsoft CardSpace; and WSO2 Web Services Frameworks for C, PHP, Ruby, Perl and Spring.
