Monica Pal Joins Expanded WSO2 Management Team as Vice President of Marketing

WSO2 Adds Marketing Executive, Expands Leadership Roles for Jonathan Marsh and Afkam Azeez to Support Growing Global Market for WSO2 Lean Open Source Middleware

Palo Alto, CA – May 16, 2011 WSO2, the lean enterprise middleware company, today announced that Monica Pal has joined WSO2 as vice president of marketing. Formerly vice president of marketing at iFan Media Corporation, Monica brings more than two decades of software marketing and development experience. She is based in WSO2’s new Palo Alto, CA office and will spearhead programs aimed at accelerating worldwide adoption of WSO2’s innovative middleware platforms.

WSO2 also announced two newly expanded leadership positions within the company aimed at further enhancing WSO2’s products: the award-winning 100% open source WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s first fully componentized middleware platform, and WSO2 Stratos, the first 100% open source cloud platform for enterprise applications.

  • Jonathan Marsh, based in the Palo Alto office, is now vice president of business development and product design. In addition to his previous role leading WSO2’s global business development efforts, Jonathan will drive new strategies and processes for optimizing the user’s experience. He also will continue contributing to WSO2’s marketing initiatives.
  • Afkham Azeez has been promoted to director of architecture from his former position as senior software architect and senior manager. In his new role, Azeez will drive efforts focused on the development and enhancement of WSO2 middleware.

About Monica Pal

Monica brings more than 20 years of expertise in enterprise software and Internet marketing strategy, execution and technology development. Prior to WSO2, she was vice president of marketing at iFan Media Corporation. Previous to iFan, she held a series of senior-level marketing positions, including co-founder and vice president of marketing at LignUp Corporation, senior director of corporate communications at Entrust Technologies, and senior director of strategic marketing at enCommerce. Monica also was a member of the pioneering Collaboration Products R&D team at Apple Computer, where she began her career as a software engineer and advanced to roles in product marketing. She received a B.A. in computer science at Rice University and an M.S. in computer science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

About Jonathan Marsh

Jonathan joined WSO2 in 2006 as the director of mashup technologies, led the team designing and developing the WSO2 Mashup Server, and then went on to become vice president of business development and marketing. Previously, Jonathan spent nearly 10 years at Microsoft where he was the primary representative for W3C standards Working Groups in the XML and Web Services area, serving as a W3C editor and helping develop several XML and Web services-related technologies. Prior to Microsoft, he co-founded and served as design director of Walkabout Software, which Microsoft acquired. He has a degree in mathematics from the University of Nevada, Reno and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering/product design from Stanford University.

About Afkham Azeez

Azeez joined WSO2 in December 2005 and has led the design and architecture of many WSO2 products, including the WSO2 Carbon and WSO2 Stratos product lines. He is an elected member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and also a Project Management Committee (PMC) member and committer on a number of projects at ASF. Additionally, he is the author of Clustering implementation for Apache Axis2. Azeez holds a first class honors degree in computer science and engineering and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
