New WSO2 White Paper Examines Use of WSO2 Big Data Analytics Platform

White paper discusses how IT professionals can use WSO2’s platform to collect, analyze and visualize big data; WSO2 webinars provide additional insights into big data use cases

Palo Alto, CA – April 8, 2014 – Today, enterprises are recognizing the value of big data—a combination of high-volume, high-velocity and high-variety information assets that can enhance insight and decision-making. To support this effort, WSO2 has published a new white paper that discusses how WSO2’s open source platform provides comprehensive support for big data analytics.

Comprehensive Support for Big Data Analytics

The white paper, “WSO2 Big Data Analytics Platform,” was written by Vice President of Developer Evangelism Samisa Abeysinghe. It begins by examining how the WSO2 big data analytics platform offers a complete solution with capabilities for collecting, analyzing and visualizing big data analytics, detecting key performance indicators (KPIs), and taking action based on the outcomes of visualizations and KPI alerts.

The paper then explores the WSO2 products that comprise the big data analytics platform, including WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (WSO2 BAM), WSO2 Storage Server, and WSO2 Complex Event Processor (WSO2 CEP). Additionally, it explains how WSO2 tools can be used to handle data sources, custom data sources, storage and retrieval, monitoring, event stream processing, visualization, and conversion of insights into actions. Finally, the paper reviews key architectural features of the big data analytics platform, highlighting advantages from clean design that is incremental, pluggable and agile.

Author Samisa Abeysinghe has nearly 15 years of experience working for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. Previously, he led the development of WSO2’s cloud and middleware platforms as vice president of engineering. Prior to WSO2, Samisa worked for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. He is a longtime Apache Web Services project committer, and initiated the Apache Axis2/C project. In addition to several published articles, Samisa has authored two books: “RESTful PHP Web Services” and “PHP Team Development.”

Big Data Analytics Webinars

IT professionals who want to learn more about WSO2’s approach to big data analytics, can participate in the “Gaining Operational Intelligence with WSO2 BAM” webinar. The event will be held on April 30, 2014 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. To register, visit https://wso2.com/library/webinars/2014/04/gaining-operational-intelligence-with-wso2-bam.

In this session, WSO2 Director of Research Dr. Srinath Perera will discuss WSO2’s middleware offerings in big data analytics, as well as explain how developers can collect and process data, and present the results using WSO2 BAM and related WSO2 products. He also will examine the use of WSO2 BAM to provide insights into how information and operations flow within and enterprise’s platform in order to analyze and improve the connectedness of systems. Finally, he will discuss an architectural model that addresses both batch processing and real-time analysis.

Presenter Dr. Srinath Perera overlooks the overall WSO2 platform architecture with WSO2's CTO. He is a co-founder of Apache Axis2, a member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and the Apache Web Service Project Management Committee (PMC). Additionally, Srinath has authored many academic and technical publications, including the books “Hadoop MapReduce Cookbook” and “Instant MapReduce Patterns – Hadoop Essentials How-to.”

Additional information about WSO2’s approach to big data analytics is available through recordings of the big data webinar series conducted by Samisa and Srinath earlier this year, which can be accessed at https://wso2.com/landing/wso2-bigbrother-webinar-series/ . Sessions include:
