WSO2 and Guest Presenter Barcelona Digital Technology Centre Will Conduct Case Study Webinar on Building an eHealth and Smart Home Platform

Webinar will examine how the Active Independent Living platform was created using WSO2 API Manager, Raspberry Pi and Z-Wave automation devices

Palo Alto, CA – July 22, 2014 – Today, senior citizens are experiencing a frightening healthcare epidemic. Senior health, participation and security opportunities are often limited in reach and effectiveness, making it especially difficult for those who are disabled or in fragile condition and require assistance. To help address this challenge, WSO2 will host a case study webinar on creating a non-invasive telecare product that allows seniors to gain autonomy, participate in modern society, and achieve independence through information and communication technology (ICT)-based solutions.

The webinar, “WSO2 Guest Webinar: E-Health & Smart Home Platform,” will be presented jointly by WSO2 and Barcelona Digital Technology Centre (BDigital), the ICT services firm that implemented the Active Independent Living (AIL) platform project. The session will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2014, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

Building an eHealth and Smart Home Platform with WSO2 API Manager

The webinar will examine how BDigital's AIL platform allows seniors to participate in modern society by enhancing independence through ICT-based solutions. It will begin by exploring the real-world deployment of this solution using WSO2 API Manager, Raspberry Pi and Z-Wave automation devices. The session then will dig into AIL middleware, which implements a decoupled architecture for security purposes using WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB), WSO2 Application Server, and WSO2 Identity Server. It also will cover best practices for managing eHealth APIs, participation of seniors, ambient intelligence (AmI), and patient-caregiver interaction.

Additionally, the webinar will review how the AIL platform strengthens senior:

  • Participation: through video call services, such as WebRTC, seniors can communicate with relatives, friends and professionals easily.
  • Healthcare: monitoring senior medical routines to support and provide services, which are managed by third-party professionals who use AIL platform APIs through WSO2 API Manager.
  • Security of Smart Home: from ambient sensors and parameters, ambient data is collected for emergency detection and action to ensure safety and protection.
