Mountain View, CA – May 6, 2009 – WSO2, the open source SOA company, today announced the launch of WSO2 Data Services 2.0. The completely re-architected open source WSO2 Data Services product is now based on WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s first fully componentized service-oriented architecture (SOA) framework. In support of the launch, WSO2 is offering two free online training courses this month—normally $199 each—that explain data services concepts and best practices for quickly exposing data as Web services.
The modular WSO2 Data Services 2.0 product provides unprecedented flexibility for enabling database administrators (DBAs) and database programmers to create and manage WS-* style Web services and REST-style Web resources using enterprise data. It is based on the WSO2 Carbon framework, in which all major features of WSO2 SOA middleware products have been developed as pluggable Carbon components. As a result, users can simply plug in extra components to handle a broad range of tasks. For example, users no longer need to deploy WSO2 Data Services 2.0 and the WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) 2.0 as separate products. Instead, users who need to implement data services in an existing schema can simply add the WSO2 mediation component to WSO2 Data Services, saving days in time.
“WSO2 Data Services addresses the demand among enterprises to quickly and easily take data from a wide variety of sources and expose it as Web services within their SOAs,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder and CEO of WSO2. “With version 2.0, end users now have the flexibility to customize and adapt their Data Services deployments as their SOA requirements evolve.”
WSO2 Data Services 2.0 offers a new extensible server administration framework that lets DBAs add custom extensions to gain greater flexibility and control over their deployments. Customization can range from simply reformatting the Data Services logs into a preferred format to writing a bridge application that allows the Data Services server to be remotely managed—and even restarted—via a mobile phone.
Other new features in WSO2 Data Services 2.0 include:
- Enhanced administration user interface, offering a more logical and easy-to-use configuration model.
- WS-Policy Editor to configure services using the W3C standard.
- Support for events, including support for graphical declaration of event sources and mediation for event delivery, for use in event-driven architectures (EDA).
- Separable front-end and back-end, which enables a single front-end server to be used to administer several back-end servers simultaneously.
WSO2 Data Services 2.0 is now part of the WSO2 Carbon SOA framework, based on the OSGi specification, that provides all WSO2 Carbon SOA components with enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, tracing, and a “Try-It” wizard that makes it simple to instantly test data services. Additionally, WSO2 Data Services uses the graphical unified management console, which supports all Carbon components and provides enhanced administration. Any components added to WSO2 Data Services 2.0 are automatically recognized by the core Carbon platform and unified management console.Live, Online Training: Introductory Data Services
WSO2 will deliver the online course “Introduction to Data Services” to provide database administrators and programmers with data services concepts and explain best practices for exposing data as Web services quickly. It will run on Thursday, May 7 (9 a.m.-12 p.m. GMT in the UK and Europe) and Thursday, May 14 (9 a.m.-12 p.m. PDT in North America). As a special promotion, the usual $199 course fee is being waived.
Participants will get hands-on experience exposing data from a range of sources as Web services, including a single database, multiple tables (joined via SQL), stored procedures, and CSV files. Attendees also will learn how to call a service from a Java client, see a demonstration of a simple service using the “Try it” feature in Data Services, and get an advance update on upcoming features.Availability and Support
WSO2 Data Services 2.0 is available for download today.
