Palo Alto, CA – October 21, 2013 – Managed APIs are empowering enterprises to take advantage of new monetization and ecosystem development opportunities by extending processes and services to customers, partners, and other internal and external market participants. WSO2 Vice President of Technology Evangelism Chris Haddad and WSO2 Vice President of Product Marketing John Mathon will examine API branding and API ecosystems, respectively, at the API Strategy and Practice Conference. WSO2 is a Gold Sponsor of the API Strategy and Practice Conference, which will run October 23-25, 2013 at the Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel in San Francisco, CA.

Presentation: Promoting Your API Brand and Extending Your API Reach

Chris Haddad will present the session, "Promote Your API Brand and Extend Your API Reach,” which is part of the “API Provider” track that will run from 11:25 a.m. – 12:40 p.m. on October 25, 2013. In the session, he will explore the significance of API brand creation along with the actions and presence influencing API brand success. Chris then will examine how to efficiently reach out to multiple communities and promote APIs through multiple branded API portals. Finally, he will discuss how to measure API brand reach and success.

Chris Haddad is WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism. He works closely with developers, architects, and C-level executives to increase WSO2 technology adoption, improve the middleware platform, and maximize customer value. Prior to joining WSO2, Chris led research teams as a research vice president at the Burton Group and Gartner advising Fortune 500 enterprise organizations and technology infrastructure vendors.

Panel: API Ecosystems and Platforms

John Mathon will join the session, "Panel on API Ecosystems and Platforms," which will run from 4:30-5:00 p.m. on October 25, 2013. As part of this panel discussion, John will review how enterprises are combining API management with the cloud and mobile to create new connections across employees, customers and partners. He also will share key concepts and real-world examples of how these connected businesses are implementing their ecosystems.

John Mathon, WSO2 vice president of product marketing, has started companies, created numerous patents, and served as a visionary for enterprise software for more than 20 years. As a founder of TIBCO software and inventor of the publish/subscribe paradigm, he helped establish TIBCO as the world’s leading middleware provider. John also started Slam Dunk Networks (now known as Cloud Prime) and Mathon Systems in the DLP space, and he helped CA Technologies move to the cloud and software as a service.

Demonstrating an Open Source Approach to API Management

As a Gold Sponsor, WSO2 will be demonstrating the capabilities of WSO2 API Manager, the first 100% open source API management product to combine easy, managed API access with full API governance and analysis. As the first API management product to offer an API Store, it lets IT organizations set up their own Apple or Google Marketplace-like store where developers can easily subscribe to and consume APIs. Meanwhile it provides API publishers with complete API lifecycle governance—from creating to publishing, deprecating and retiring APIs—as well as analytics and metrics to support decision-making and enforce service-level agreement (SLA) policies.

WSO2 API Manager is built on the same WSO2 technology used by enterprises around the world, including a major online retailer that is handling more than 1 billion API calls per day. Providing full multi-tenancy, it runs directly on server hardware or in a virtualized environment, such as an Amazon or VMware cloud, bringing the efficiencies of multi-tenancy and self-service to on-premises deployments. Additionally, the cloud-ready WSO2 API Manager software can plug into the WSO2 Stratos platform as a service (PaaS) foundation to operate as part of a PaaS, adding cloud-native capabilities, such as elastic scaling, expanded self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and storage, among others.
