WSO2 Joins Cloud Security Alliance

With CSA Membership, WSO2 Extends Commitment to Enabling Robust, Authentication and Identity Management in the Cloud Palo Alto, CA – December 14, 2011 – WSO2 today announced that it has joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the non-profit organization with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing and education on the uses of cloud computing to help secure all other forms of computing. As a member of the Cloud Security Alliance, WSO2 will join the corporate member advisory council to provide guidance into strategic CSA initiatives. Additionally, WSO2 team members will complete the requirements to achieve the CSA’s Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK). The move extends WSO2’s commitment to enabling robust, policy-based security in the cloud. WSO2 first launched WSO2 Identity as a Service (previously named Cloud Identity) in February 2010. In May 2011, WSO2 was awarded the European Identity Award 2011 in the Cloud Provider Offerings category by analyst group KuppingerCole. The award recognized WSO2 for WSO2 Identity as a Service, citing the multi-tenant open source cloud service for its OpenID and XACML support and its innovative features, including the ability to migrate from on-premise to a full cloud service. “As enterprises extend their information from in-house systems to popular software-as-a-service offerings, such as Salesforce.com and Google Apps, they face new challenges in identity and access management. We created our WSO2 Identity as a Service to address those challenges,” said Prabath Siriwardena, WSO2 software architect and senior manager. “We’re honored to join the Cloud Security Alliance and look forward to contributing our real-world experiences in enabling enterprises to secure their cloud deployments.” “WSO2’s innovation in delivering proven technology for cloud-native identity management and authentication is a welcome addition to CSA member community, and we look forward to WSO2’s contributions to the alliance,” said Jim Reavis, executive director of the Cloud Security Alliance. About WSO2 Identity as a Service WSO2 Identity as a Service helps companies eliminate the complexity of deploying identity management and authentication across multiple software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, as well as internal and traditional systems. By supporting a broad set of authentication and security standards—including SAML2, XACML, OpenId and OAuth—WSO2 Identity as a Service gives administrators a central identity management system while users gain single sign-on access to different cloud applications. The use of standards means that the WSO2 offering works out-of-the-box with major Web systems, such as Tomcat, Liferay and Drupal, as well as major cloud providers, such as Google Apps and Salesforce. Available both as part of the WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform and WSO2 StratosLive hosted platform-as-a-service (PaaS), WSO2 Identity as a Service uniquely offers the flexibility to deploy on—and easily migrate between—on-premise servers, private clouds, public clouds, and hybrid environments. WSO2 Identity as a Service is designed to support millions of users, and its ability to automatically scale across as many server instances as required ensures high availability, performance and reliability whether on-premise or in the cloud.
