WSO2 Presents Summer School Class on the Internet of Things and Big Data

WSO2 director of research will lead free webinar-based training on July 17, exploring the relationship between the Internet of Things and data, big data, and real-time analytics

Mountain View, CA – July 10, 2014 – The Internet of Things (IoT) paints a vivid picture of a possible reality that is both fascinating and imposing. However, few talk about the sensing and decision-making infrastructure—the brain—that must be present with those connected devices. The fourth WSO2 Summer School class of 2014 will discuss the underlying decision framework needed to collect and analyze data, compare and contrast all data, and draw conclusions before humans at the other end notice the lag.

The interactive online class, “Data, Big Data and Real Time Analytics for Connected Devices,” will be led by WSO2 Director of Research Srinath Perera, Ph.D. It is being offered at no cost as a part of the WSO2 Summer School 2014 program. The session will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Pacific.

Big Data and Real-Time Analytics

This class is designed to provide participants with insights into the relationship between IoT and data, big data, and real-time analytics. Srinath will begin by defining a reference architecture for the Internet of Things. He then will discuss how complex event processing (CEP) coupled with the Lambda architecture for big data applications can provide the underlying framework for a range of IoT scenarios. Additionally, he will discuss the role of the Apache Hive data warehouse in supporting big data analysis within the IoT architecture. Throughout the class Srinath will use real-world IoT scenarios to illustrate key concepts.

For architects and developers who want to learn more about IoT best practices, WSO2 has published a white paper, “A Reference Architecture for the Internet of Things.” The paper is designed to provide an effective starting point for addressing the major requirements of IoT projects and systems.
