Mountain View, CA – February 9, 2009 – WSO2, the open source SOA company, today released version 2.0 of the WSO2 Registry. The completely re-architected open source registry/repository is now based on WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s first fully componentized service-oriented architecture (SOA) framework. As a result, developers now can choose to drive a complete distributed Carbon SOA from a central WSO2 Registry instance, provide metadata for specific Carbon components, or create a complete SOA Governance solution for both WSO2 and all other SOA technologies.
“Customers recognize that a central registry/repository is not always the optimal configuration for a SOA, but too often cost and complexity prevent them from exploring other options,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder and CEO of WSO2. “With the WSO2 Registry, companies now have the flexibility to implement a governance solution that matches their needs—with far less complexity.”
The WSO2 Registry 2.0 is being released in conjunction with the WSO2 Carbon SOA framework and the other products based on it—including the WSO2 Business Process Server (BPS) 1.0, WSO2 Web Services Application Server (WSAS) 3.0, and WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) 2.0. For more information, see the related press releases also dated February 9, 2009.Componentized Registry 2.0 Enables Custom SOA Solutions
Version 2.0 builds on the proven performance of the WSO2 Registry, a structured registry and repository with comprehensive SOA lifecycle management support.
New enhancements to the SOA governance model include significant improvements to the publication and management of WSDL-based services. The WSO2 Registry lets users define custom lifecycles with conditional state transitions.
Additionally, it offers well-defined extension points for a flexible, plug-in approach to linking resources and allowing users to encode their own governance rules and polices. Together with the WSO2 Registry’s socially enabled interface, these capabilities facilitate collaboration in the management, ranking and reuse of enterprise Web services.
As part of the WSO2 Carbon SOA platform, which is based on the OSGi specification, the WSO2 Registry 2.0 now runs on the same core Carbon framework that provides all WSO2 Carbon SOA components with enterprise-class management, clustering, and security. Additionally, the WSO2 Registry uses the graphical unified management console, which supports all Carbon components and provides enhanced administration.
Because the WSO2 Registry 2.0 is completely integrated with all other WSO2 Carbon SOA components, it brings a plug-and-play simplicity to governance. For example, it is no longer necessary to download and implement the WSO2 Registry 2.0 and WSO2 ESB 2.0 as separate products. Instead, developers using the WSO2 WSAS, ESB and BPS products automatically get built in governance using the WSO2 Registry component. As they expand their governance solution they can migrate to the full WSO2 Registry 2.0 and add governance for other Java, .NET and heterogeneous services.Availability and Support
The WSO2 Registry 2.0 is available for download today. To get started, developers need to download the full product to get the core Carbon framework and unified management console that drive all of the components. Individual components will be available within one month of the initial product release, allowing developers to simply add new capabilities to any of the core products as needed.
As a fully open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, the WSO2 Registry does not carry any software licensing or subscription fees. WSO2 offers a range of service and support options for the WSO2 Registry. These include support subscriptions, training, consulting, custom development and development support.
