Expert on financial IT solutions will examine technologies, such as complex event processing and machine learning, for implementing simple yet effective real-time fraud detection

Mountain View, CA – September 24, 2015 – Online fraud grows increasingly complex as savvy criminals learn to counter anti-fraud measures using technology and advanced statistical models. At Apache Big Data Europe 2015, WSO2 Technical Lead Seshika Fernando will discuss how enterprises can strike a balance between preventing fraud in real-time and avoiding invasive approaches that drive customers away. The event runs September 28-30, 2015 at the Corinthia Hotel in Budapest, Hungary.

Seshika’s presentation, “Catch Them in the Act – Fraud Detection in Real Time,” will be held 2:00 – 2:50 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015 in the Arany venue. In this session, she will examine a number of technologies and tactics for implementing simple yet effective real-time fraud detection. These will include how:

  • Anomalies can be detected in real time using complex event processing (CEP).
  • Markov modeling provides a great approach to detecting rare activity sequences.
  • Machine learning can be applied to intensify fraud detection.
  • Scoring functions can be used to reduce false positives.
  • Visualizations can enable analysts to further crack down on relationships in large fraud rings.
