However, newly implemented RESTful applications often have to co-exist with a plethora of other applications based on Web Services, pub-sub architectures and various legacy systems. These systems might use message formats and protocols that are not compliant with REST which makes connecting different business applications a challenge. This brings up a set of new enterprise integration requirements such as exposing existing applications through RESTful APIs and transforming RESTful invocations into web service calls or RPC calls.
This webinar provides an introduction to REST and discuss the role of REST in enterprise integration. We will look at the difficulties associated with connecting RESTful applications with other applications and explore the solutions and patterns available for solving such problems. Finally we will also look at some real life REST integration examples taking the WSO2 middleware platform as the basis.
Hiranya Jayathilaka, WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus product lead, is an expert in HTTP and spearheads the work on supporting REST APIs within WSO2 ESB and the WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform. Hiranya is a long-time committer on the Apache Synapse and Apache Xerces2/J projects; author of the FIX transport for Apache Synapse; and a contributor to several other open source projects, including Apache Derby and Apache Web Services. He is also a pioneering member of the project MOINC, which is focused at leveraging grid computing and volunteer computing principles to implement highly scalable Web services clusters.
