Summary

Identity management and authentication across multiple SaaS (software-as-a-Service) applications as well as internal and traditional systems is a challenge to most enterprises. Many internal applications today rely on an on-premise identity management service, such as Active Directory or LDAP. However, this model does not work well when different Cloud based services such as Google Apps and Salesforce comes into play.

Ideally enterprises should be able to manage their identity and user management systems in a centralized manner while catering to the identity requirements of diverse applications. Apart from that, maintaining in-house identity and user management systems incur a high cost which is a pressing concern for small and medium enterprises.

These problems set the stage for a Cloud based identity management solution. Cloud based systems support a wide range of open standards which makes it possible to communicate with different systems including different SaaS solutions and on-premise applications. Also it lowers the barriers for small and medium businesses by eliminating the need for internal software, dedicated hardware, and systems administrators.

In this session, Prabath and Thilina will discuss moving identity management to the Cloud while looking at existing cloud based identity management systems such as WSO2 Stratos Identity. They will also discuss the importance of Identity and Security Open Standards when mitigating the challenges imposed by the identity and authentication requirements of different heterogeneous systems.
