New WSO2 White Paper Examines Best Practices for SOA and API Convergence

White paper discusses how IT professionals can meet business goals, define an appropriate SOA and API mindset, implement shared services and APIs, and optimize governance

Palo Alto, CA – March 27, 2014 – Enterprises recognize that API and service-oriented architecture (SOA) best practices are central to solution and platform development. However, the adoption curve for these approaches can be steep. To help IT professionals address this challenge, WSO2 has published a new white paper that discusses effective strategies and tactics for API management within an SOA.

Capitalizing on SOA and API Convergence

The white paper, “SOA and API Convergence Strategy and Tactics,” was written by WSO2 Vice President of Platform Evangelism Chris Haddad. It begins by examining common SOA and API goals and benefits, reviewing both the business and technical perspectives. The paper then explores the execution schism, caused by differences in strategic focus, between REST API and SOA approaches. Additionally, it will cover pragmatic reconciliation, explaining how APIs can provide a platform for business stakeholders sponsoring enterprise IT renewal and pragmatic business execution.

The paper also reviews four different SOA and API mindsets: big SOA, small SOA, API-access and API-centric enterprise. Finally, it explores how organizations can strengthen their architecture environment and gain API-centric agility. This includes a discussion of when enterprise teams should create services and APIs, best practices for service and API governance, and their impact on application governance.
