WSO2 Customer Dialog Axiata and Mobitel Receive Special Award at the European Identity & Cloud Awards 2015

Dialog Axiata and Mobitel were recognized for their joint Mobile Connect solution, built on WSO2 Identity Server, which provides a fast, secure login system for mobile authentication

Mountain View, CA – May 21, 2015 – WSO2 customer Dialog Axiata and Mobitel received a Special Award at the European Identity & Cloud Awards 2015 presented by analyst group KuppingerCole. The companies were recognized for their jointly developed Mobile Connect solution, built on WSO2 Identity Server. Providing a fast, secure login system for mobile authentication, the Mobile Connect solution enables people to access their accounts with just one click.

The European Identity & Cloud Awards honor outstanding projects and initiatives that promote the awareness for and business value of professional identity management and cloud security. Winners have all distinguished themselves through exceptional efforts in identity and access management (IAM); governance, risk management and compliance (GRC); and cloud security. The awards were presented on May 6, at the 2015 European Identity & Cloud Conference in Munich.

“In today’s connected world, mobile network operators need to collaborate more than ever to deliver a simple, seamless and secure experience for mobile users,” said WSO2 Founder, CEO and Chief Architect Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. “Dialog Axiata and Mobitel, with their Mobile Connect solution built on our WSO2 Identity Server, are revolutionizing how mobile operators work together to provide secure access for their subscribers. We are thrilled by the recognition they have received for this solution with KuppingerCole’s Special Award at the European Identity & Cloud Awards 2015.”

“This project epitomizes how the open source mindset that drives WSO2 allowed two very large companies to execute a joint project so successfully. Whilst we’ve been working with the WSO2 stack for years, the fact that both companies could access the source code of the WSO2.Telco Identity server made the joint solution so much easier to deploy in a robust manner,” says Dialog Axiata Group Chief Information Officer Anthony Rodrogo. “This very open process allowed us to pass both companies’ network security team requirements in record time, which in turn allowed us to drive our joint vision in an agile manner, with the pilot project completed in just six weeks. Hats off to Dialog Axiata and Mobitel’s excellent teamwork.”

“It is a great honor to be recognized for our efforts. I am indeed humbled that Mobitel received the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Mobile Connect solution. In this rapidly changing world, information in mobile security is of great importance as access to information and new technology is increasingly becoming more advanced. As a result, secure login systems are of great importance,” Mobitel Chief Executive Officer Ranjith G. Rubasinghe stated. “As the national mobile service provider, we are committed to ensuring safety, efficiency and security at all times in line with our mission to care, share and deliver. This award will most certainly push Mobitel further to reach new heights,”

Password-Free Mobile Security

The Mobile Connect solution from Dialog Axiata and Mobitel is the world’s first commercial multi-operator Mobile Connect solution to provide an out-of-band medium for authenticating a user to any service provider—without requiring a password—and enable single sign-on to multiple applications and services. As a result, a mobile user can access a range of applications and services with a single click or even through automatic recognition of the user’s device via a mobile network.

The solution is powered by the fully open source WSO2.Telco Identity Server, which provides identity authentication and authorization. Through the federated identity functionality in WSO2’s software, the Mobile Connect deployment enables multiple identity servers hosted by multiple operators to authenticate their respective customers. The Mobile Connect solution is based on the third-generation OpenID protocol, OpenID Connect 1.0 to provide secure and verifiable way of identifying a user without the need to maintain usernames or passwords. The powerful WSO2.Telco Identity Server fully conforms to the GSMA CPAS5 OpenID Connect OpConnect Profile 1.0 while offering multiple additional features to form the foundation of a fully integrated identity strategy.
