Two-Day Unconference Strives to Bring the Apache Developer Community Together, Encourage Project Contributions, and Prepare for Google Summer of Code 2012 Palo Alto, CA – February 23, 2012 – WSO2 today announced that WSO2 Founder and CEO Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana will be a keynote speaker at Apache BarCamp Colombo in Sri Lanka. Apache BarCamp Colombo 2012 is a free two-day software developer event, which will be held February 26, 2012 at the University of Colombo and February 27, 2012 at the Virtusa Inc. Auditorium. On Sunday, February 26, 2012, Dr. Weerawarana will give a keynote presentation on how attendees can find their way to Apache contribution. Additionally, Dr. Weerawarana will participate in a panel discussion, “How to Prepare for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2012 with Apache projects.” He will be joined by two other keynote presenters: Ross Gardler, vice president of community development at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and founder of OpenDirective, and Nick Burch, ASF member and project management chair for the Apache POI project. The events will be held at the Professor VK Samaranayake Auditorium at the University of Colombo School of Computing. Dr. Weerawarana has played a pioneering role in open source standards for many years. He is an elected Apache Software Foundation member, the original creator of Apache SOAP, and a contributor to Apache Axis, Apache Axis2 and most Apache Web services projects. “Apache open source software has played a game-changing role in how enterprises think about, develop and deliver new applications and services. The investment in building our community is critical to fostering this continued innovation,” Dr. Weerawarana said. “It is for this reason that we encourage our developers at WSO2 to divide their time equally between contributing to Apache projects and building the functionality in our award-winning WSO2 Carbon and WSO2 Stratos platforms.” Joining the Apache Software Foundation and Virtusa Inc. as a local sponsor, WSO2 strives to help IT students, new Apache contributors, and other IT professionals in the field learn more about Apache project contribution and community building.
