WSO2 to Present Session on Applying API Management to the Internet of Things at APIDays Berlin + APIStrat Europe 2015

Session will examine how developers can apply API management best practices to develop applications that harness IoT device insights and act on them

Mountain View, CA – April 23, 2015 – The millions of devices that comprise the Internet of Things (IoT) provide unprecedented opportunities for gaining new insights and acting upon them in a timely way. At APIDays Berlin + APIStrat Europe 2015, WSO2 Director of API Architecture Sumedha Rubasinghe will examine how developers can use managed APIs as the key to unlocking these IoT-driven insights and actions.

WSO2 is a Gold Sponsor of APIDays Berlin 2015, which will run April 23-25, 2015 at The Humboldt Carré in Berlin, Germany.

Managed APIs for the Internet of Things

The presentation, “IoT and API Management – A Match Made in Heaven,” will run 3:40 – 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in the Caroline & Wilhelm v. Humboldt room.

Sumedha will begin the session with an overview of a typical IoT device architecture, including sensors, actuators and a management interface; the device’s ability to publish data; and its process for exposing actuators to be controlled by authorized calls. He then will discuss typical device challenges, such as device registration, authorization and management.

Sumedha then will focus the majority of his discussion on how to quickly develop applications that link devices by exposing device interfaces as standard APIs and providing API access to these devices. Throughout the session, he will provide practical guidance on how developers can register devices, expose devices as APIs, and apply API management best practices to manage device APIs.

Additionally Sumedha will examine why the OAuth 2.0 protocol for authorization and authentication is a natural fit for authorizing access to IoT devices. He then will conclude by demonstrating a device exposed as a managed API.

Integrated Open Source Approach to the Connected Business

The WSO2 booth at APIDays Berlin 2015 will have experts available to discuss the synergistic, integrated approach of WSO2’s 100% open source platforms in addressing the technology demands of competing in a connected world, including the cloud, API management, big data analytics, the management and security of mobile and Internet of Things devices, and DevOps. Among the WSO2 solutions are products from the comprehensive WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform—including WSO2 API Manager, WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager, WSO2 Private PaaS, the WSO2 App Factory cloud-enabled DevOps platform, and WSO2 API Cloud.

Significantly, all WSO2 solutions are built on the same fully componentized, OSGI-compliant code base. As a result, developers can easily deploy and customize any of these WSO2 products and the 175-plus components on which they are comprised, providing greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands. In addition to WSO2 cloud platforms, all WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products also are fully multitenant and cloud-ready. This means IT professionals can write an application once and deploy it on the same middleware on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment.
