Technical introduction to WSO2 IoT Server

WSO2 IoT Server provides an extensible framework for building connected solutions. Solutions can range from pure device management to extending existing business capabilities to include a connected consumer experience. IoT Server's centralized management console allows administrators to define policies that restrict or control device functionality and enforce those policies for each and every device. Device administrators can also gather information from devices and get real time notifications. For example, automatic alerts when a device enters/exit a predefined geographic area (geo fencing).

IoT Server has a complete REST API that expose all built-in functionality and has the ability to control devices that are enrolled to the server. This allows building custom and integrating device functionality/statistics to existing services and applications.

Who should attend?

This workshop is targeted to developers and architects interested in learning more about features of IoT Server as well as utilizing the built-in APIs to build or integrate functionality to their applications.

During this workshop we will cover,

  • Device management functionality - enrolling devices, defining and enforcing policies, understand device statistics
  • Ability to support multiple device type - Android, iOS and custom device types
  • Using the API to explore functionality - understand data formats that's exposed through IoT Server for integrating into external services and apps
  • Plans for future - discussion on upcoming features

Chintana is a part of WSO2’s solutions architecture team that provides consultancy to customers to help them identify technology requirements and implement various projects in key technology areas, ranging from integration, analytics, API management, and security. He has provided technology consulting on customer engagements including architectural guidance, integration of web services, print process automation and online management solutions. Chintana is also a committer on the Apache Stonehenge project.

Prior to joining WSO2, Vanji worked as a software engineer at IFS. He holds a first-class honors degree in computing from Staffordshire University, UK. He has also completed a Master of Computer Science from University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka.
