Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join the Agent Manager team at WSO2. In this role, you will take ownership of designing and implementing high-performant, scalable, and secure components of WSO2's emerging Agentic AI Ecosystem spanning Agent Lifecycle Management, AI Governance/Gateways, Observability, SDKs, and Tooling. You will spend the majority of your time authoring maintainable code and mentoring junior engineers while keeping up with cutting-edge software engineering and AI technology trends.
Responsibilities and duties
Research and development
- Own key feature areas within the Agent Manager platform (e.g., agent build/deploy pipelines, A2A communication, MCP tool integration, governance & guardrails, observability).
- Design and build robust, high-performance microservices and core platform logic adhering to system architecture, security, and scalability standards.
- Follow WSO2 engineering best practices end-to-end (coding standards, design patterns, automated testing, documentation, CI/CD).
- Conduct technical research to drive continuous functional and architectural improvements across the Agent Platform.
- Mentor junior engineers through detailed code reviews, architectural guidance, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications and skills
Educational and work experience
- BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2-4+ years of relevant industry software engineering experience.
General senior software engineering skills (mandatory)
- Strong programming proficiency: Solid experience in modern languages such as Java, Go, C/C++, or Python.
- Core CS and systems architecture: In-depth understanding of core computer science fundamentals, distributed systems, REST/gRPC APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud-native design.
- Code quality and testing: Proven track record of writing unit-tested, clean, maintainable, and secure production code with automated test coverage.
- Problem solving and task management: Excellent analytical capability, estimation skills, and the ability to break down complex fuzzy problems into actionable tasks.
- Leadership and communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership to small engineering teams and foster open, empathetic team collaboration.
AI and agentic experience (added advantage)
- AI agent frameworks and architectures: Prior experience working with LLM-based agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, LlamaIndex, or custom multi-agent orchestration systems) is a strong plus.
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI tooling: Familiarity with MCP, AI plugin architectures, custom tool/SDK integration, or agent CLI interfaces.
- AI gateways and governance: Experience with LLM gateways, prompt management, rate-limiting, guardrails, workload identity, or AI evaluation/observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, LangSmith, Traceloop).
- RAG and vector storage: Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, or semantic search mechanisms.
