Forward Deployed Engineers: Closest to the Customer, First to Hit the Wall
Register
The forward deployed engineer title travels loosely. At one company it means a solutions architect with a laptop, at another a post-sales implementation lead, at another an embedded product engineer writing code in the customer's repo. The ambiguity matters now, because AI deployments are widening the gap between what the demo does and what a customer environment permits, and closing that gap is where an FDE motion earns its budget.
This session defines the role and the motion around it:
- What an FDE is, and how the role differs from solutions architecture, professional services, and customer success
- Where an FDE motion drives real value
- Where the consulting and building mindsets converge
We also cover the harder part of the job: telling a customer their agent ambition is blocked on integration work they have deferred for three years. Whether you run an FDE team, have been asked to stand one up, or carry the title and want a sharper definition of it, this session is a working account of what the motion looks like when AI and agents are the product.
