From Legacy Core to Modern Operations: Utica First Insurance’s Journey to an API-Driven Architecture

Utica First Insurance, a regional commercial property and casualty insurer serving small businesses and contractors, recently completed a significant transformation of its core insurance platform as part of a broader effort to modernize operations and support a more efficient underwriting environment.

With the new core in place, the next challenge was connecting it to the many systems, data sources, and workflows that underpin everyday underwriting operations. Rather than rebuilding processes inside individual systems, Utica First introduced an integration and orchestration architecture built on WSO2 technologies together with the Daystar digital enablement platform.

In this session, John Burns, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Utica First Insurance, will share the organization’s modernization journey and what it took to move from legacy constraints to a more connected operating model. Together with Dan Sobotincic, President of Daystar, the session will highlight how WSO2-enabled APIs and integration services were used to coordinate workflows across systems and support a modern operational architecture. Attendees will leave with practical insights on integration patterns, architectural considerations, and lessons learned from implementing an API-driven approach to support core system transformation.
