Scaling Humanoid Robotics in Africa with Open‑Source Middleware

Humanoid robotics startups in Africa face the same integration, API management, and identity challenges as large enterprises, but no documented reference architecture exists for applying enterprise open‑source middleware to offline‑first humanoid robots on the continent. Using Zerobionic's humanoid platform as a case study, this talk presents a blueprint built on WSO2 API Manager, Micro Integrator, and Identity Server. We show how local API gateways enable offline operation, how microservice orchestration handles real‑time sensor fusion, and how identity policies secure fleets of edge devices. This is the first publicly shared architecture of its kind for humanoid robotics in Africa, turning isolated robots into a secure, observable, and manageable agentic system without vendor lock‑in. Attendees will learn to apply enterprise integration patterns to robotics, bridging a critical gap between mature middleware practices and the continent's emerging robotics ecosystem.
