With the competitive landscape and challenges in the telecommunication market, Communication Service Providers (CSPs) or Telcos need to change the game plan to elevate the industry to the next level. Going beyond connectivity, CSPs are now leveraging IT and digital technologies to transform the traditional business into becoming Digital Telco and eventually Cognitive Telco. To enable this, APIs are the fundamental building block to open up new digital capabilities and potential collaboration with multi partners for B2B2C business.

As the CIO of Telekom Malaysia (TM), M. Umapathy Sivan is responsible for the overall formulation of an effective IT and digital services strategy. He is the Chairman of Telekom Research & Development Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of TM. Prior to joining TM, Sivan was the Regional Service Delivery Director of Huawei and worked in 3 different Huawei organizations covering the role of Service and Fulfillment Delivery, Solution Manager before being appointed as IT Business Director for the Axiata Account. He was responsible for building and managing the first local Managed Services organization in 2011 for Huawei’s Malaysian office (BSS Center @ Kuala Lumpur) and was successful in setting-up the first Centers of Excellence (COE) for BSS support and maintenance in Malaysia and Brunei in 2013.
Sivan started his career with WebGuruAsia (WGA) as a Web Project Manager where he led the organization to win the Best Integrated program in Asia Interactive Award 2001. He later joined Dell Inc. where he managed Support.AP.DELL.com with personnel across 6 countries. He has also worked at Shell IT Global in 2005 as the Senior Global Service Desk Manager for the End User Computing (EUC) organization.
