One Way to Ship: Build Your Internal Developer Platform with OpenChoreo
Organizations adopt Kubernetes for scalability, portability, and resilience, and it delivers on all three. What it doesn't deliver is a developer experience which has to be planned and designed. Most teams design it by accident, through an accumulation of pipelines, charts, and glue code that only a few people understand.
In this hands-on lab, you'll build an internal developer platform on Kubernetes using OpenChoreo, a CNCF Sandbox project, and establish one deliberate path from code to production. Starting from a clean cluster, you'll install the control, data, build, and observability planes, then define the environments, component types, traits, and promotion pipelines that encode how your organization delivers software. Those definitions are declarative and version-controlled, so the standard lives in Git rather than in tribal knowledge.
You'll then deploy real services through a Backstage-powered portal where builds, promotions, logs, metrics, and traces map to your application model instead of raw Kubernetes objects, giving developers a uniform experience while platform engineers keep control over what the platform allows.
By the end you'll have a running platform, and a clearer sense of which decisions are worth standardizing across your teams and which are better left to them.

Isuru is an Associate Enterprise Architect in the Sales Engineering team at WSO2, supporting customers across the African region. He works closely with organisations to understand their digital transformation requirements and provides architectural guidance to help them adopt WSO2 technologies for both greenfield initiatives and modernisation of existing platforms. With over 15 years of experience in the software industry, including extensive experience at WSO2, Isuru has worked across the full spectrum of the software industry, with experience spanning software development and R&D, operations and maintenance of WSO2 platforms Choreo and API Cloud, and customer support. Isuru plays a key role in supporting the success of BFSI and telecommunications customers across Africa, helping organisations leverage WSO2 technologies to address modern digital transformation requirements, including API-led transformation, integration, cloud adoption, and emerging Agentic AI use cases.
Kavith Lokuhewage is an Associate Director and Architect at WSO2, with nearly 13 years of experience building developer tools and portals for WSO2 products. He started his career contributing to Eclipse-based tooling and later played a key role in the transition to VS Code-based tooling. He was a lead developer in building developer tooling for the Ballerina language, including the Low Code editor, Data Mapper, IDE extensions, and Language Server. He later led the Choreo SaaS Portal team, focusing on improving the experience of developers and platform engineers. He is currently a maintainer of OpenChoreo, leading the development of its Backstage-based Portal with a focus on simplifying platform and developer experiences.
