Azeez joined WSO2 in 2005 as a senior software engineer, and initially contributed to open source projects, including Axis2, Synapse, Axiom and others, at the Apache Software Foundation, and was also the first product manager of the WSO2 Application Server, which was the very first product from WSO2. He was voted in as a Member of the Apache Software Foundation in 2010 in recognition of his sustained contributions to the Foundation. During this period, he also co-authored a book titled “Apache Axis2 Web Services”, and specifically contributed to the areas of Axis2 clustering.

He has been a key figure in many strategic technology initiatives at WSO2, which include the Carbon framework, in-process multi-tenancy and adoption of Kubernetes and other cloud native technologies within WSO2. He also contributed to the Ballerina Language project and implemented a distributed transactions coordination protocol. His passion for building things ensures that he gets involved not only in architecture and design but also getting down to implementation. Azeez has also presented at a number of conferences including Kubecon, Oscon & WSO2Con.

Azeez is currently WSO2’s spokesperson for all cloud related matters and has played an active role in evangelizing the company’s cloud initiatives at various external forums, and conducted many related training programs and workshops. As a part of his role, he drives efforts focused on adopting state-of-the-art cloud native technologies, and devops & site reliability engineering (SRE) practices. Moreover, he is a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) & Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).

Azeez has an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, specializing in software architecture.

Outside of the technology world, Azeez likes to spend time in the wild - he particularly enjoys off-roading, camping, and bird watching. He also likes to tinker around with repairing things and has an unusual knack for modifying & upgrading vehicles. He is also an amateur radio operator (callsign 4S6AZE) and an electronics hobbyist.
