WSO2 Founder and CEO to Unveil Public Cloud Strategy at WSO2Con US 2013

Previews of three new WSO2 public cloud offerings: WSO2 App Cloud, WSO2 Integration Cloud, and WSO2 API Cloud are now available for developers to evaluate

Palo Alto, CA – October 30, 2013 – Cloud computing is a cornerstone of the connected business as enterprises extend new business models, processes and services across their employees, customers and partners. In his keynote presentation at WSO2Con 2013 US, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO, will unveil the latest developments in the company’s cloud strategy and examine how WSO2’s cloud offerings are enabling the connected business today. In conjunction with the conference, WSO2 also is making available previews of three new WSO2 public cloud offerings for developers to evaluate.

The main sessions of WSO2Con 2013 US, WSO2’s fourth user conference, run October 30-31, 2013, at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Weerawarana’s keynote will open the event on October 30, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific. Moving from concept to practice, Jim Crabbe, Boeing senior product manager, will follow with his keynote presentation, “Cutting-edge IT at Boeing: Transforming Commercial Aviation Using WSO2,” discussing how Boeing built the cloud-based Digital Aviation Platform using WSO2. Following the keynotes, the videos will be posted at https://us13.wso2con.com/agenda.

Three additional WSO2 announcements this week address other technology developments that are enabling the connected business:

  • WSO2 Enterprise Store is the first complete platform for managing and provisioning any type of digital asset—applications, APIs, gadgets, e-books and other resources—across the entire enterprise asset life cycle. (See October 30, 2013 press release.)
  • WSO2 Carbon 4.2, WSO2 API Manager 1.5, and WSO2 Governance Registry add significant functionality, including Hazelcast for high speed, availability and scalability across distributed environments. (See October 30, 2013 press release.)
  • WSO2Mobile is recruiting beta customers for the WSO2Mobile Enterprise Mobility Platform, designed for the enterprise management of mobile applications and devices. (See October 28, 2013 press release.)

“Enterprises that embrace technologies, such as the cloud, managed APIs, mobile, social networking, and open source are gaining a competitive edge through new models of agility, business ecosystems, monetization and efficiency,” observed Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. “We are empowering these connected businesses by building on our award-winning 100% open source cloud and enterprise middleware to deliver solutions that foster integration, collaboration and sharing—while ensuring the robust governance and management that these organizations demand.”

Building on a Track Record of Cloud Innovation

In his presentation, Dr. Weerawarana will unveil the WSO2 Public Cloud family, which represents the company’s next generation of public platform as a service (PaaS). Replacing the broad, general-purpose WSO2 StratosLive public PaaS, WSO2 Public Cloud offerings are being tailored to the specific use cases enterprises require today. The first three offerings to be launched are also available for preview today at https://cloudpreview.wso2.com . They include:

  • WSO2 App Cloud, an application PaaS (aPaaS) designed to reduce costs and accelerate application development and delivery with integrated ALM and DevOps tools.
  • WSO2 Integration Cloud, the multi-tenant integration PaaS (iPaaS) that enables development, execution and governance of cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-enterprise integrations.
  • WSO2 API Cloud, which lets organizations expose business capabilities as managed APIs and provides off-the-shelf potential for advertising and selling business APIs.

The three public clouds build on the capabilities of WSO2 App Factory and WSO2 API Manager. WSO2 App Factory, which launched in July 2013, enables continuous cloud delivery through a shared, self-service, multi-tenant and elastic enterprise DevOps platform, which supports complete application life cycle development. WSO2 API Manager, available since August 2012, is the first 100% open source API management product to combine easy, managed API access with full API governance and analysis. Significantly, since all WSO2 products are based on the same multi-tenant, cloud-enabled code, enterprises can deploy seamlessly across public and private clouds, on-premises servers, and hybrid environments.

Expanding Commitment to Apache and Open Source

From the start, all WSO2 software products and cloud services have been and continue to be 100% open source solutions released under the Apache License 2.0. They do not carry any licensing fees.

In his keynote, Dr. Weerawarana will discuss how WSO2 has expanded on its commitment to the Apache Software Foundation and open source by donating the WSO2 Stratos PaaS foundation to ASF. Apache Stratos (incubating) is a framework, which features a cartridge-based architecture that allows cloud and non-cloud native software alike to plug-in and gain cloud capabilities.

Dr. Weerawarana also will outline WSO2’s plans for WSO2 Private PaaS software that will replace WSO2 Stratos and enable IT organizations to create a private PaaS. WSO2 Private PaaS will include an instance of the Apache Stratos framework, WSO2 Carbon multi-tenant cloud-enabled middleware, and additional capabilities.
