WSO2 Technology Executives Will Present Sessions on PaaS Deployment Best Practices at QCon San Francisco 2014

Sessions will examine how to overcome common PaaS deployment challenges and how to deploy a scalable DevOps PaaS using Apache Stratos

Mountain View, CA – November 3, 2014 – WSO2 today announced that technology executives will present two sessions at QCon San Francisco 2014.

  • Asanka Abeysinghe, WSO2 vice president of solutions architecture, will discuss how to address common challenges in developing and deploying cloud applications on platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions.
  • Lakmal Warusawithana, WSO2 director of cloud architecture and vice president of Apache Stratos, will examine how the Apache Stratos PaaS framework can enable a highly productive DevOps environment.

WSO2 is a Platinum Sponsor of QCon SF, which runs November 3-5, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel.

November 3: PaaS for the New Cloud Era

“PaaS for the New Cloud Era,” led by Asanka Abeysinghe, session will be held 1:40-2:30p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014, as part of the Sponsored Solutions Track I, in the Marina Room at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel.Asanka will begin by examining how teams using traditional application servers to deploy cloud applications benefit from on-demand efficiencies, but they continue to spend a significant effort on application delivery, including deployment, scaling, and governance. He then will discuss how PaaS solutions have helped to automate some functions but still fault short.

Next, Asanka will review how WSO2 Private PaaS,which is built on Apache Stratos, serves to address the deployment challenges faced in using other platforms. He will discuss the overall architectural approach of WSO2 Private PaaS, as well as how IT organizations can take advantage of its capabilities, such as polyglot language and environment support, container-level multi-tenancy, and the ability to run on multiple runtimes.

November 5:Deploying DevOps at Scale With Apache Stratos

“Deploying at Scale with PaaS,” led by Lakmal Warusawithana, will be held 11:50 a.m. –12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, as part of the Sponsored Solutions Track III, in the Marina Room at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel.Lakmal will examine how to take advantage of Apache Stratos, capabilities to deploy a DevOps PaaS that empowers developers and supports a range of deployment options. He will begin with an architectural overview of Apache Stratos, a highly extensible PaaS framework that can run a range of software—such as Apache Tomcat, PHP, and MySQL, among others—through cartridges that plug into Stratos.

Lakmal then will discuss how Stratos provides developers a cloud-based environment for developing, testing and running scalable applications. He also will explore how integration with the Docker platform, CoreOS Linux distribution, and Kubernetes container management system bring more scalability and flexibility to a Stratos PaaS. Finally, Lakmal will demonstrate how to use key Stratos functions for application deployment, provisioning, auto-scaling and more.

Integrated Open Source Approach to the Connected Business

The WSO2 booth at QCon SF 2014 will have experts available to discuss the synergistic, integrated approach of WSO2’s 100% open source platforms in addressing the technology demands of competing in a connected world, including the cloud, API management, big data analytics, the management and security of mobile and Internet of Things devices, and DevOps, to name a few. Among the WSO2 solutions are products from the comprehensive WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform, WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager, WSO2 Private PaaS, the WSO2 App Factory cloud-enabled DevOps platform, and WSO2 Public Cloud platforms.

Significantly, all WSO2 solutions are built on the same fully componentized, OSGI-compliant code base. As a result, developers can easily deploy and customize any of these WSO2 products and the 175-plus components on which they are comprised, providing greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands. In addition to WSO2 cloud platforms, all WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products also are fully multitenant and cloud-ready. This means IT professionals can write an application once and deploy it on the same middleware on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment.
