As the first Sacco to be licensed by SASRA, the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (License No. 1), Stima Sacco has been a pioneer in introducing innovative financial solutions, including instant ATM services, mobile banking, cheque truncation, Shariah-compliant products, and conventional cheque issuance.
Stima Sacco provides a comprehensive range of services, including savings and deposit accounts, credit facilities, mortgage solutions, investment options, insurance through its fully-owned Mpawa Insurance Brokers, and diaspora financial services. With a strong emphasis on convenience and member empowerment, Stima Sacco leverages digital platforms such as the M-Stima mobile banking app and specialized portals for internet banking, insurance, and payroll management.

Challenge
Stima Sacco faced major difficulties integrating with its partners such as banks, fintechs, and other financial institutions. Point-to-point VPN connections were complex to manage, insecure, and slow, making it difficult to guarantee data protection or assure partners of a secure link. This led to a slow development cycle and delayed time-to-market for new digital products and partnerships.
At the same time, the organization was preparing to migrate to a new core banking system, launch mobile and internet banking, and needed seamless, secure interconnectivity across systems, all while maintaining compliance with Kenya’s data protection mandates.
Solution
By adopting WSO2 API Manager, Stima Sacco established an interoperable integration platform connecting partners, core banking, ERP, and digital channels.
Stima Sacco, a financial institution with over 25 integration points, collaborates with numerous service providers offering mobile money, ATMs, cheques, and other forms of deposits and payments. These services are accessed by over 15 external parties, enabling seamless information exchange for members.
With WSO2, Stima Sacco is able to:
