Overview
CEVA Logistics (CEVA), part of the CMA CGM Group, is a global leader in third-party logistics. The company operates a vast network, offering a comprehensive portfolio of services—including contract logistics, air, ocean, and ground transport—to connect people, products, and providers worldwide. CEVA leverages its extensive network and expertise to support businesses of all sizes with integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions.
To power these integrated solutions and maintain operational excellence, CEVA needed a unified digital platform. This required a robust, standardized approach to API management that could connect its diverse systems, streamline data exchange, and support future innovation.
Challenge
CEVA's four business units operated on separate technology frameworks. This created operational silos across its global supply chain, which hampered visibility, slowed decision-making, and increased costs and risks in critical processes like transportation planning and last-mile delivery. To remain competitive against demands for rapid delivery and cost pressures, CEVA needed to consolidate its IT operations into a single, enterprise-wide strategy.
The company's primary goals were to improve cost efficiency, shorten time-to-market for new digital services, and simplify the onboarding of partners and customers. A cornerstone of this transformation was establishing a robust, future-proof API management and governance framework. This framework had to ensure that all data and integrations across its global network remained scalable, secure, and compliant.
Solution
To modernize its digital backbone and ensure greater efficiency across its global operations, CEVA adopted WSO2 API Manager as the foundation for managing both internal and external API use cases. Today, the platform supports more than 300 million API transactions per month, powering essential logistics processes such as order management, shipment tracking, warehouse management, and third-party carrier integration.
To support more specialized needs, CEVA also leverages the Kubernetes Gateway, a gateway variant of the WSO2 API Manager to provide isolated gateways for certain departments, enabling a microservices-driven and kubernetes-native architecture where appropriate. A central global integration team manages the entire platform, handling API onboarding and DevOps to ensure high reliability. This reliability is crucial for meeting client service level agreements (SLAs), a commitment backed by WSO2's enterprise support.
CEVA selected WSO2 for its flexible, open source technology, which prevented vendor lock-in. WSO2’s proven ability to handle high-volume, multi-region operations provided the scalability and cost-efficiency required for CEVA’s five-year IT roadmap. The strategic partnership extends beyond technology, with WSO2 actively collaborating with CEVA on future architectural planning.
