How Nib International Bank Transformed Its Integration Landscape Using Open Source WSO2

As Ethiopia accelerates toward a digital-first economy, Nib International Bank recognized the urgent need to modernize its
integration landscape. Legacy, point-to-point connections were no longer sufficient to meet the demands of real-time services,
Fintech partnerships, and secure third-party connectivity. In this session, I’ll share how we redesigned our integration strategy
using WSO2 Micro Integrator (Community Edition)—introducing a centralized, API-first architecture that now powers our wallets, telecom
services, payment services, and Mobile Banking "SuperApp". Most importantly, we achieved this at zero software cost, leveraging
open-source technology, internal expertise, and a clear architectural vision. Today, WSO2 has become a mission-critical platform within
our digital infrastructure. As part of our new strategic plan, we’ve now allocated budget to upgrade to WSO2 Enterprise Edition,
ensuring long-term resilience, vendor-supported scalability, and enterprise governance. I’ll walk through our journey, challenges, and
the strategic choices that helped us modernize with agility—and without a vendor lock-in.
