Cloud Implementation Checklist: Avoiding Cloud Lock-in

Lock-in has long been a source of rigidity, high cost, and frustration in enterprise software. Now the face of lock-in is changing with the introduction of new technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing. Although some of these technologies address an aspect of lock-in—moving to a cloud service releases the customer from purchasing proprietary software—it also introduces a wider and more convoluted surface for various types of lock-in to occur.
