WSO2 Named in “Who’s Who Among Providers of Enterprise Service Bus Open-Source Software” by Gartner

Vendors in the report address two prevailing project types: systematic application projects and systematic and comprehensive application integration projects

San Francisco, CA – October 10, 2013 – WSO2 today announced that the company has been named in the Who’s Who Among Providers of Enterprise Service Bus Open-Source Software1 report, which was published by Gartner, Inc. on October 1, 2013. The new Gartner report looks at four vendors of open-source software (OSS) enterprise service bus (ESB) suites that address two prevailing project types: systematic application projects and systematic and comprehensive application integration projects.

The Who’s Who Among Providers of Enterprise Service Bus Open-Source Software2 report observes, “With several vendor-supported alternatives available, open-source ESBs have moved from a developer-oriented curiosity to a viable choice for mainstream organizations. Most organizations will not replace their commercial implementations with open source; however, many are using an OSS ESB for new investments in ESB technology in less operationally demanding situations. Gartner expects OSS ESB products to challenge closed source products in demanding scenarios in the near future.”

All of the open-source ESB vendors listed in the Who’s Who Among Providers of Enterprise Service Bus Open-Source Software3 report also appeared in two reports from Gartner that were published on June 27, 2013: Magic Quadrant for On-Premises Application Integration Suites4 and Magic Quadrant for On-Premises Application Platforms5. WSO2 was positioned in the “Visionaries” quadrant of both these June 2013 reports.

“We designed our WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus with the idea that a lean, adaptive architecture could provide the high performance and flexibility that enterprises need both on-premises and in the cloud. Today, our Global 1000 customers rely on WSO2 ESB for their mission-critical implementations, including one major online retailer that is processing more than 1 billion API transactions per day,” said Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO and vice president of the Apache Software Foundation Synapse Project. “We are excited to be identified by Gartner as one of the ‘Who’s Who in OSS ESBs.’ We view it as validation of our commitment to reinventing middleware around the next generation of open source standards to meet enterprises’ real-world demands.”
