WSO2 Positioned in the “Visionaries” Quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform as a Service

Evaluations were based on completeness of vision and ability to execute

San Francisco, CA – January 28, 2014 – WSO2 today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform as a Service1, which was published on January 7, 2014. The new Gartner report looks at leading vendor offerings in the enterprise application platform as a service (aPaaS) market, which are designed to support the growing number of organizations that are turning to the cloud for their new application initiatives. A reprint of the report can be downloaded at https://wso2.com/landing/gartner-magic-quadrant-for-enterprise-application-platform-as-a-service .

Enterprise adoption of aPaaS is a natural evolution in cloud computing, following the successful implementations of infrastructure as a service (IaaS), software as a service (SaaS), and integration platform as a service (iPaaS).

According to the Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform as a Service report, “With the growing adoption of SaaS by mainstream enterprise business and of IaaS by mainstream enterprise IT, more organizations have become familiar with the benefits of cloud computing and more have become dependent on cloud resources. These initial engagements with SaaS or IaaS have opened the door to utilizing cloud resources more fully. aPaaS is engaged to customize and extend SaaS (and iPaaS—to integrate it with other applications). It is also engaged by users that have become comfortable with the use of IaaS, and now wish to increase their productivity and to delegate more responsibility to the cloud services providers by subscribing directly to application infrastructure (instead of indirectly through the subscription to VMs).”2

“The cloud is empowering enterprises to create new models of agility, business ecosystems, monetization and efficiency, but it also has fostered a proliferation of stovepipe deployments and shadow IT projects that are disconnected from enterprises’ strategic initiatives,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “Our WSO2 App Cloud aPaaS builds on the power of our WSO2 App Factory platform to bring a new level of ease, convenience and collaboration to application developers while giving enterprises the full governance to ensure that applications align with their strategic plans. “We are honored to be positioned in the ‘Visionaries’ quadrant by Gartner, and we view it as validation of our innovation in enabling enterprises to harness the cloud in delivering a new generation of applications.”
