Sanjiva Weerawarana

Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana is the Founder, CEO, and Chief Product Officer of WSO2, a company he established in 2005 to pioneer open-source enterprise software. His background includes nearly eight years at IBM Research, where he spearheaded middleware innovation and industry standards, contributing to the foundational specifications of Web services.

A member of the Apache Software Foundation and a former board member of the Open Source Initiative, Sanjiva is deeply committed to open technologies. His dedication extends to Sri Lanka, where he founded and chairs the Lanka Software Foundation, Lanka Data Foundation, and Avinya Foundation, organizations focused on the advancement of technology, data accessibility, and education.

Sanjiva holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka. His past roles include serving on the boards of Sampath Bank and numerous leading research and academic institutions in Sri Lanka. He also served as the IT Advisor to the Sri Lanka Army as a Direct Enlisted Volunteer Officer.
